Frequently asked questions

What file formats are supported?

Import PNG artwork and exchange palettes with other pixel-art tools, including Aseprite (.aseprite/.ase palette data), Pro Motion NG (.pal), Pixelorama (palette JSON), and GIMP (.gpl). Palette support does not mean full project compatibility: Pixelmori does not currently open complete Aseprite or Pro Motion NG projects. You can also import bitmap brush tips from PNG, sampled Photoshop ABR, and GIMP GBR or GIH files. Export artwork as PNG, GIF, or APNG, create PNG sprite sheets, or download PNG sequences and texture atlases as ZIP files. WebM video export is available in supported browsers.

Does it support layers, palettes, and custom brushes?

Yes. Organise artwork with layers and groups, build and edit palettes, and restrict drawing to your palette colours. Create custom brushes from your artwork or import bitmap tips from PNG, sampled Photoshop ABR, and GIMP GBR or GIH files. You can keep resources with a project or in a reusable library stored locally in your browser. Photoshop and GIMP brush-engine settings are not fully interchangeable.

Does it support animation or tilesets?

Yes. Create frame-by-frame animations with cels, adjustable frame timing, onion skinning, playback previews, and animation tags. You can also build tilesets and paint tilemap layers, with tiled previews to help check repeating artwork. Pixelmori projects preserve animation and tile data; export animations or sprite sheets when you are ready to use the artwork elsewhere.

Are my files uploaded or stored online?

No. Pixelmori edits and exports your artwork on your device; it does not upload your projects or store them in the cloud. Recovery copies, reusable resources, preferences, and workspace settings may be stored locally in your browser. Save a Pixelmori project file to keep a separate copy of your work, since clearing browser data can remove locally stored copies.

Do I need to download anything to use it?

No separate download or installation is required. Open Pixelmori in your browser and start drawing. If your browser supports installation, you can optionally use Help → Install Pixelmori to add it as an app. Once the app has loaded and its offline cache is ready, you can also reopen it offline.
